THE COACH TO REPLACE JOSE MOURINHO
After Jose Mourinho was sacked, Manchester
United seemingly announced their new caretaker coach by accident via a video on
the club's official website, but later deleted it.
The Red Devils sacked Mourinho on Tuesday
after the club fell 19 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool and 11
points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
United announced that they would appoint a
caretaker coach this week, while a new permanent manager will only be appointed
after the 2018/19 campaign following a thorough recruitment process.
Initial rumours suggested that Michael
Carrick will take over from Mourinho in the interim, but, although he was in
charge of the first training session after the Portuguese coach's sacking, it
is understood that the club want an outsider who knows the club, according to Sky Sports.
Former United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
now seems the frontrunner to take over, with a video on the club's official
website – which was later deleted – announcing him as the new coach.
The clip was posted under the title "The
Most Famous Night of Ole's Career", along with the captain:
"Solskjaer becomes our interim manager, 20 seasons after clinching the
treble with THAT goal at the Camp Nou..."
United were not alone in prematurely
announcing Solskjaer, who is currently in charge of Norwegian club Molde, as
their new manager, with the Norwegian prime minister Erna Solberg
congratulating him on the new job via a tweet – which has since been deleted,
too.
"Great day for Norwegian football. Good
luck keeping control of the Red Devils, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer," she wrote
on Twitter.
