BIAFRANS: “VOTE TO HAVE A STATE WITHIN NIGERIA STATES” – MUHAMMADU BUHARI
The worst man on earth is the very one who
lives in a society and refuses to recognises the reality of things around him. Issues
concerning Biafra and her referendum, and possibly independence have remained a
laughable thing in the mind of other ethnic groups in Nigeria and some myopic Igbo
indigenous.
But events in the Federal High Court Enugu
yesterday, 25th June, 2019 rehearsing the statement of Muhammadu
Buhari, the president of Nigeria appears to give hope to the long besought independent
of the state of Biafra.
Speaking to the Aljazera tv. on the 5th
day of March, 2016, advising the Biafrans to organize themselves and vote to
have a state within the Nigerian states appears to prove that even the
president knows that Nigeria will do better as a confederation state than its present
unitary structure. Addressing the Biafrans, Buhari remarked,
“We have multi-party democratic system now. Let
them organize themselves and vote to
have a state with a state”.
By implication, Biafrans should seek for a
self-governing autonomous state within the Nigerian states in the manner as
Scotland exists within the Great Britain. It is on this standpoint that the
Biafrans insistently drags the federal government to court.
Also included in the suit against the federal
government are that:
(1) Biafrans should be allowed to display
their identity via the use of the Biafran flag and enshrining the Biafran logo
on their products uninterruptedly.
(2) Federal government should return to the
owners or relations those properties confiscated by the federal government
under the “Abandoned property bill” of 28 September 1979. Abandoned Property
Bill was signed into law nine years after the Biafran civil war by the then General
Olusegun Obasanjo which led to the confiscation of the properties of the
Biafrans in other states of the federation and the Biafran money in Nigerian
banks. Among other items in the suit.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) is
therefore advising the president to dissolve Nigeria in peace among the different
ethnic groups in it than allow the country to breakup in bloodshed.
