PSG chiefs set up Liverpool meeting to try and seal transfer for Barcelona target Neymar
That’s according to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo.
The report states that PSG owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu will meet at the next European Club Association meeting, taking place on August 16.
PSG and Barca still have a rocky relationship stemming from the fallout from Neymar’s original transfer in 2017.
Neymar is desperate to leave PSG this summer
Barca reportedly submitted multiple offers for the Brazilian forward earlier in the transfer window, but have been unable to come to a compromise.
PSG are unwilling to let Neymar leave on the cheap, despite him wanting to leave.
And subsequently, they are reportedly asking for a fee of £165million - which is still £34m less than the £198m they forked out for him in 2017.
Barca are unwilling to pay that much, however, and instead have sent PSG a list of six players to choose two from, in order to bring the initial price down.
The Catalan giants included Ivan Rakitic, Samuel Umtiti, Ousmane Dembele, Philippe Coutinho, Nelson Semedo and Malcom on the list, in the hopes that PSG could be swayed into accepting.
On Tuesday, PSG boss Thomas Tuchel cast further doubt on the prospects of a deal being made, after he insisted that Neymar was still his player.
“Ney has had a lot of injuries, he missed the Copa America, and when you come back it is essential to improve your fitness,” he said.
“For this reason, we decided for sports reasons to let him train individually. Tomorrow (Wednesday), Presnel [Kimbempe] and he will have their first meeting with the band.
