Trouble For Barcelona Following La Liga’s President Latest Comments
Antoine Griezmann move to Barcelona could be cancelled after La Liga president confirmed the league board are looking into Atletico Madrid’s complaints.
The Blaugrana completed a deal for the France World Cup winner after they paid his £107m release clause. But Atletico Madrid are complaining the La Liga champions should be paying more than that.
Griezmann release clause only dropped from 200m to 120m euros in July, and the Rojiblancos are saying Barcelona should be paying the 200m because they agreed a deal with Griezmann in March.
La Liga authorities have now decided to look into Atletico’s claim with the president saying the deal could be blocked if the Rojiblancos claim is found to be true.
“It is possible to block a player’s transfer,” Tebas told Onda Cero.” La Liga will have to decide what course of action to take.”
Griezmann has already made his debut for Barcelona in the team’s 2-1 loss to Chelsea, but that won’t stop the La Liga board from looking into the issue.
“[Atletico] submitted a complaint and put in doubt whether we should pass Griezmann’s licence to Barcelona. ” There’s a process that has been put in motion and those overseeing it will have to come to resolve the case,” Tebas added.
