Frank Lampard Reacts To Tammy Abraham's Omission From England Squad
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has given his thoughts on Tammy Abraham's omission from Gareth Southgate's recently released squad list.
Despite scoring two goals against Norwich last weekend, the 21-year-old centre-forward didn't make England's list for the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Kosovo and Bulgaria.
Reacting to the player's snub, Lampard believes the intense competition for place in Southgate's attacking frontline is the main reason for Abraham's omission.
"With Tammy, there is competition up front. Hopefully it's a matter of time for Tammy. But with the competition to start, it's Gareth's choice,'' the Blues boss told reporters on Friday.
Lampard also praised the player's attitude during a tough week at Stamford Bridge in which he lost a decisive spot kick against Liverpool, and he was a victim of a racist attack.
Abraham will hope to continue his newfound goalscoring form when the Blues play host to Sheffield United on Saturday.
