Edo election: APC campaign clears air on Ize-Iyamu’s appeal that Obaseki should dump PDP
The Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu Campaign Organization has denied that the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate in the last election appealed to Governor Godwin Obaseki to return to the party.
The Director of Communications and Media of the Osagie Ize-Iyamu’s Campaign Organization, Mr John Mayaki, stated this in a statement on Thursday.
Ize-Iyamu, in a viral video that emerged on Wednesday night appealed on Obaseki, whom he described as his senior brother, to return to the party he left prior to the governorship election in the State.
Gov. Obaseki dumped the ruling APC prior to the governorship election after he was disqualified from contesting in the primary election.
He joined the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, where he won the party’s governorship ticket.
Mayaki said that his principal never made such appeal to Obaseki, while accusing the Governor and his party, the PDP of fabricating the report.
“We warned several times that the media should beware of fabrications from Obaseki and the PDP camp, but they did not listen,” he said.
“That is why they have reported that the election was free and fair, and that is why they have said our candidate appealed to Obaseki to come back to APC.
“The video in reference is from three months ago, not after the election but doctored by Governor Obaseki’s media handlers to seek undue legitimacy”, he disclosed.
“Pastor Ize-Iyamu was reported in the stories as speaking from Abuja, but it was the Benin reporters that covered the story. Were the reporters transported to Abuja?
“Do these media agencies actually believe the stories they carry? Obaseki and the PDP have a way of leaking false news to the media and the media has to be sensitive and professional in receiving the news.”
He further said that there is a fake Twitter account purporting to belong to Pastor Ize-Iyamu, warning the media to avoid it like a plague and verify all their information before passing them on.
