Trump: 'Newsmax Has Been Really Good'
Former President Donald delivered high praise for Newsmax and the rise of conservative media, while lamenting Fox News' daytime shift in its coverage of conservatives.
"I wouldn't say Fox has been exactly perfect," Trump told "The Dan Bongino Show" in an interview that aired Wednesday. "Fox has been a big difference between now and what it was 4 years ago, but we've had others that come along and they're doing well.
"Newsmax has been really good," Trump added. "Others are coming along, and people are seeing that people are watching these conservative networks. We have more than half, substantially more than half the people.
"If you went to a conservative newscast – like if you look at the newscasts that aren't doing particularly well on the networks – if you made one of them a conservative newscast, it would be Walter Cronkite. It would be ratings like you haven't seen in a long time. But they don't want to do that."
Trump even told Bongino in what he called "breaking news," he advised CBS chairwoman Shari Redstone to support a conservatism in their news broadcasts.
"I told Shari, 'if you took your news and made it a conservative newscast – you know the "CBS Evening News" – if you made that a conservative newscast, you would double, triple, maybe even quadruple your ratings.' But so far, they haven't done it.
"If they did that, they would do numbers like we haven't seen before, and I have no doubt about it."
Trump questioned why liberal-slanted news organizations play to the Democrat voter base when "they're doing so badly."
"They would take a newscast that's doing horribly and they would have by far the No. 1 newscast on television.
