Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said no legislator would think an infrastructure bill is perfect, but it’s an important government duty. McConnell made these comments from the House floor on Thursday, saying the country would benefit from targeted investment in the kinds of projects that fit a common-sense definition of infrastructure.

He said this includes roads, bridges, airports and broadband. In addition, McConnell said he’s glad to see discussions on the infrastructure bill making progress in what ought to be a robust bipartisan floor process.

“This kind of focused compromise that our colleagues have been hashing out could not contrast more sharply with the multi-trillion dollar reckless taxing and spending spree that Democrats hope to ram through on a party-line vote later this year,” said McConnell.

McConnell was one of 17 Republicans who voted in favor of opening debate on the proposal. Some Republicans said they still would not vote on the bill until it is actually written and they can review its details.
