Biden Admin.: No Plans To Evacuate Americans Outside Kabul
The Biden administration revealed there are no plans to evacuate Americans outside the Afghan capital of Kabul. Officials from various departments including State and Defense, told Senate staffers they don’t know of a way to get those Americans past Taliban checkpoints.
The exact number of Americans still trapped outside Kabul is unknown. However, reports said as many as 15,000 may still be in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, Republican Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton pledged a hotline for Americans trapped behind enemy lines, stating they’ll do everything they can to keep them informed and to get get them out.
“The situation is dire,” stressed Cotton. “But we’ll do everything in our power to help keep you informed and to help get you out.”
In the meantime, the State Department is still advising Americans to continue to shelter in place until further communication from the U.S. Embassy is provided.
When I was asked about whether we’re going to get all Americans out of Afghanistan I said “that’s what we intend to do” and that’s exactly what we'll do, and are accomplishing right now with HKIA re-opened and operational, thanks to the incredible work of our troops and diplomats
