Biden To Address Nation On Afghanistan Evacuation Efforts
Joe Biden is set to speak publicly on the ongoing evacuation operations in Afghanistan as thousands are still seeking to leave the country. According to a schedule released by the White House, Biden will deliver updates on the nation on the situation on Sunday after he meets with national security officials.
This comes as the U.S. has continued to conduct evacuation flights out of Kabul International Airport. Meanwhile, Pentagon officials said around 17,000 people have been taken out of the nation in the past week.
Reports said about 5,800 U.S. troops are currently on the ground to assist with ongoing efforts ahead of Biden’s Aug. 31 deadline to end military operations in the country. Biden’s latest comments on the situation included, “I cannot promise what the final outcome will be, or that it will be without risk of loss, but as commander in chief I can assure you I will mobilize every resource necessary.”
In the meantime, Biden has continued to face criticism from both Republicans and Democrats for his failed withdrawal from Afghanistan. please
