Bandits rape women, loot Zamfara community for not paying levy
Kwarin Mai Saje community in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State came under severe attack on Sunday night for refusing to pay N3 million levy imposed on the community by the bandits.
In the course of the attack, a source said the bandits raped several women, looted valuables and kidnapped six persons.
The hoodlums were said to have earlier imposed levies on 13 communities in Zamfara State, excluding Kwarin Mai Saje Community.
One of the gangs under the command of a kingpin, Ada Aleru, had reportedly dragged Kwarin Mai Saje into its own illegal tax net a few weeks back.
The source further said the hoodlums were provoked to attack the community as the residents could only raise the sum of N600,000 instead of the N3 million demanded.
The source said, “Bandits in large numbers attacked our community on Sunday. They raped many women in their houses and looted our properties. They also kidnapped six people during the attack.
Efforts to reach the police public relations officer in the state was abortive as he had not responded to calls at the time of filing this report.
