Washington Commanders Football Player Shot in Carjacking Attempt in Broad Daylight in DC
Brian Robinson Jr., rookie running back for the Washington Commanders (formerly the Redskins) NFL football team, was shot and wounded in a carjacking attempt in the revitalized H Street corridor in Northeast Washington, D.C. late Sunday afternoon. Robinson, from Alabama, who has been rumored to be named a starter for the Commanders after an impressive preseason, suffered non-life threatening wounds after being hit twice, according to reports.
The carjacking attempt took place in the 1000 block of H Street Northeast, across from a Ben’s Chili Bowl restaurant before 6 p.m. D.C. police say they are looking for two young Black males. Robinson is also Black. He was driving a Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat.

D.C. Police, “Alert: Shooting Investigation in the 1000 block of H Street NE. Lookout for two black juvenile males with shoulder length dreads, medium complexion, wearing a black or brown shirt with yellow smiley faces on it.”

NFL Network’s Tom Pellissero reported, “My understanding is at least two bullets struck #Commanders RB Brian Robinson in the lower body. As @MikeGarafolo said, Robinson is hospitalized in stable condition. A terrible situation that could’ve been even worse.”
Statement by the Commanders, “We have been made aware that Brian Robinson Jr. was the victim of an attempted armed robbery or carjacking in Washington, D.C. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is currently being treated at the hospital, where team officials are on site with him. We ask that you please respect Brian’s privacy at this time.”

The Washington Post’s Nick Jhabvala reported team owner Dan Snyder and other team officials were at the hospital with Robinson, “Also with Robinson and his family at the hospital: Commanders owners Dan and Tanya Snyder, president Jason Wright, general manager Martin Mayhew, chief medical officer Tony Casolaro and director of mental wellness Barbara Roberts.”

The Commanders picked Robinson, 6-foot-1 and 228 pounds, in the third round of the NFL draft this April. He had 1,343 rushing yards and scored 14 touchdowns last season for Alabama.
