Trump Will Screen ‘Sound Of Freedom’ At New Jersey Golf Club
45th President Donald Trump has announced that he will screen the box office hit Sound of Freedom at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster on July 19th.
Sound of Freedom, which premiered on July 4th, earned $41.7 million in its first week beating out Disney’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny as the top spot at the box office.
The film, directed by Alejandro Monteverde and distributed by Angel Studios, is based on a true story of Tim Ballard, a Homeland Security Department agent, who worked to rescue children from sex-trafficking in Columbia.
The film has been a box office hit, but has drawn criticism by some media outlets and critics who have tried to politicize the movie, pinning it as a “recruiting tool for the far right.”
Rolling Stone critic Miles Klee called the film a “superhero movie for dads with brainworms,” while The Guardian critic Charles Bramesco labeled the film as “QAnon-adjacent.”
Despite these criticisms, Sound of Freedom has received a 100% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The film’s Mexican producer, Eduardo Verástegui, who was previously appointed a member of Trump’s Advisory Commission on Hispanic Prosperity, and Ballard, who was part of the Trump administration’s Public-Private Partnership Advisory Council to End Human Trafficking, are both expected to join Trump at the screening.
Jim Caviezel, who plays Ballard, will be in attendance as well.
When he announced the screening, the Trump campaign indicated the former president’s steps to end human trafficking and highlighted Ballard’s support of a border wall.
The screening is set to be attended by Trump’s club members and supporters.
