Trump Addressed his Supporters After the Assassination Attemp

Former President Trump on Sunday expressed his appreciation for the U.S. Secret Service and local law enforcement for keeping him safe after he survived a second assassination attempt.

"I would like to thank everyone for your concern and well wishes - It was certainly an interesting day! Most importantly, I want to thank the U.S. Secret Service, [Palm Beach County Sheriff] Ric Bradshaw and his Office of brave and dedicated Patriots, and, all of Law Enforcement, for the incredible job done today at Trump International in keeping me, as the 45th President of the United States, and the Republican Nominee in the upcoming Presidential Election, SAFE," Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.

"There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL," Trump wrote after the events. "Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER! I will always love you for supporting me. Unity. Peace. Make America Great Again."

The Secret Service is working closely with authorities and investigating the situation, and U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland has been briefed.

This was the second attempted assassination on Trump, the first taking place on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania.

That afternoon, Trump was speaking at a campaign rally when 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks fired off eight rounds from the roof of a building, located about 150 yards away from the stage, grazing Trump’s ear with one bullet.

"THE JOB DONE WAS ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING. I AM VERY PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!" he added.

Suspected gunman Ryan Wesley Routh was taken into custody in connection with the shooting. He was allegedly armed with an AK-47 outside Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, while the former president was playing the fifth hole.

Routh, who fled after being shot at by Secret Service agents, was arrested in neighboring Martin County, Snyder said.

A Secret Service agent walking on the golf course a hole ahead of where Trump was playing spotted the rifle sticking through a chain-link fence and immediately opened fire, Bradshaw said during a press conference.

Routh was 300 to 500 yards away from Trump, authorities said. Authorities said he had two backpacks, ceramic plates and a GoPro camera, which were recovered by authorities.

This was the second assassination attempt on Trump since July
